Description
XDP has the BD-Power 1081160 Cool Down Timer 2 to help preserve the turbo in your 1994-2019 Ford Super Duty, 1994-2005 Dodge Ram, or 2001-2014 GM Silverado/Sierra. Turbochargers operate at very high temperatures. This Cool Down Timer is designed to keep the engine running when the ignition is turned off to prevent turbocharger bearing failure that could occur when the engine is shut off. When the engine is not running, it stops the cool lubricating oil flowing to the turbocharger while it is still hot. If the oil flow is shut off too soon, the remaining oil in the bearing housing will overheat causing coking of the bearings. This coking causes both premature bearing wear and reduced oiling of the bearings. Allowing the engine to idle to a minimum operating RPMs gives the turbocharger time to cool down. The Cool Down Timer is adjustable for up to 5 minutes of idle time or optionally works with any K-Type EGT pyrometer probe for temperature-based shutdown.

Purchased a couple of years ago, was super easy to install, did it in the garage in about an hour. Great directions, just set it to the desired shut off temp, and it works everytime. The only problem i had was that my remote locks dont work for a lil bit after it shuts off. If i dont try to go back out to it for a couple hours, they work fine... All in all it's a great product, and can save potentially thousands of dollars of damamge to turbo. Highly Recommended!

Love the fact that this turbo timer works well. But the one thing they dont mention for the 03-07 6.0's is that the factory ford program that allows the radio to stay on after you turn the truck off will also stay on with the timer bc it doesnt trigger the door switch to turn the radio off. So when I installed it and walked away, my radio was up loud so i could hear it even though the timer had cycled and shut the truck down. It doesnt go off until the factory timer of like 10 or 15 mins is up. An there is no way of changing that door trigger to trip once the turbo timer has finished. Wish they had said that.

Works great so far on my 07 5.9 CTD, no error codes or CEL as of yet. Hopefully this continues to be the case.

Does this kit require the BD-Power thermocoupler probe kit to be used? Is the BD-Power thermocoupler probe kit required for operation of theach cool down timer?

The BD-POWER 1081160 COOL DOWN TIMER 2 does not require the use of the pyrometer for operation. However, if you would like the vehicle to shut off at a specific exhaust gas temperature the pyrometer probe kit will be required.

When the key is turned off, the CDT2 module will keep the power supplied to the ECM/PCM, which will in turn keep the engine running. On late model vehicles the CDT2 keeps most or all of the vehicle ignition system and accessories powered until engine shutdown, on early model vehicles only the engine will remain running.
