works great but butts up against oil filter
Adam (Colorado) 5/18/2013 1:39 PM
I am impressed with the filter overall and have about 20000 thousand miles on my truck since install. The problem is it butts up against my oil filter and I noticed when I change my oil that my oil filter always had used oil on it and a tiny drip but never enough to notice until you pulled the filter. My truck never used to leak anything around the oil filter but I have figured out that it is the air filter pipe that is rubbing up on it that is causing it to leak. I tried to get it closer to the turbo but with no luck so now I am going to cut off 3/8 of an inch off the end of the pipe so it can sit closer to the turbo and not rub the oil filter. This air filter looks awesome under the hood and has excellent filtration properties and I like it overall.

2003 Dodge 2500 5.9L HO TD
Paul (Wisconsin) 7/10/2012 11:20 PM
It took me about 45 minutes to install in my 03 Dodge 2500 with a 5.9L HO TD. The installation instructions were a little vague and I spent more time than I should have to disconnect the mass air sensor plug. it was also an unexpected long reach with a ratchet to secure the sheet metal enclosure under the fender . Material and fit were good but I don’t know if the low density foam plug seals will hold up in the long run. I bought the unit primary for mileage and it didn’t disappoint. I closely check mileage and got a real 1.5 mpg increase after 2000 miles. With my six speed manual, 3.42 rear end, 2WD I now get over 25 mpg. I can’t tell if acceleration has improved because my program was modified so I already have over 400 Hp and nearly 800 ft lbs of torque. I highly recommend this cool air intake.

2007.5 Dodge Ram 3500 2wd 6.7 Cummins diesel
Horco (Southern New Mexico) 5/17/2011 11:20 PM
This is my second AFE CAI install and it was just as easy as the first time. If you know what the directions are talking about you will have zero problems. I took my time and from the time I gathered the tools I needed to the time I put them all away was one hour and forty-five minutes. It was straight forward I literally did it under a shade tree. After the install I took it for a 50 mile drive and I could already hear the turbo whine more and the Engine brake was louder as well. I could feel a little better response and after I got back I double checked all of the connections. Looks great under the hood and I highly recommend AFE CAI to anyone looking.

Few hurdles but should be fixed on new ones
Todd (AZ) 8/30/2009 10:00 PM
The design is for multiple year models which is not desireable but AFE has solved the issues with the covers for ports you may or may not use. Mine came with one out of two fixed properly but after calling AFE they sent me the fix for the second port very quickly. The filter is huge and designed very well (grooved flange for clamp, extra hoeny comb metal grate to protect wire covered filtering media, etc.). Good quality and easy but tight fit. It does butt up against oil filter but dont see any issues.

The plastic plug is about the cheapest piece o'sh.. going!! For 5.9 application, I mean. OD too large for fit into rubber grommet. 10 min. of lathe time and I had me custom aluminum plug whipped up. Wonder what I would have concocted if not for the lathe? Also, intake tube rides mighty close to oil filter. Not liking that!
