Compressed air is heated air—and when you combine an aggressive fuel curve with elevated boost levels, high inlet temperature can result. That’s why BD developed the Cool-It intercooler. With up to 57% more cooling surface area and an up to 33% thicker core, the Cool-It increases cooling eff ectiveness to approximately 90%. That can mean a temperature reduction of up to 200° Fahrenheit over the stock intercooler! At the same time, the up to 36% larger inlet and discharge tubes can handle up to 100 psi pounds per square inch of boost and over 1500 cfm, while holding pressure drop to less than 1 psi pounds per square inch.

And with BD’s new Chevy LB7/LLY Duramax unit having over 780 sq in of frontal cooling area and almost 2000 cu in. of cooling volume, that makes it 12% more area and 79% more volume over stock - 4% more area and 37% more volume over some competitors.

A direct, bolt-in replacement for the stock unit, the Cool-It is the best-looking, best performing intercooler on the market. New manufacturing design makes all end tanks casted with exclusive one-piece internal support columns that increase tank stiff ness and strength.

Buy the Banks Techni-Cooler instead
Cooper (Wyoming) 9/18/2010 1:24 PM
I purchased the BD intercooler about a year ago based on the representations in their advertising, graphs, and claims of lower EGTs. Their installation instructions are sketchy at best and more steps are needed than indicated. Once installed I did not notice lower EGTs, more power, or better gas mileage. However, I did install the Banks larger intercooler tubes on the BD intercooler and my EGTs went down, indicating that no matter how much bigger the intercooler is, if there is constriction going in or out of the intercooler you are not going to see much in the way of results. I asked BD why they put a black coating on their intercooler and they replied they got better results in testing for performance than with an uncoated intercooler. I find this interesting as this is the only intercooler I have seen with a coating. With the Banks Techni-Cooler you get larger tubes going in and out of the intercooler and it appears from the pictures that it has no coating, so this would seem to be a more complete package for similar money. If I had it to do over again I would order the Banks unit from Xtreme Diesel as I have found Banks personnel to be mostly unpleasant on the phone. I have found one individual at Banks that is extremely friendly and helpful but only one.
