I didn't put this on when I installed the filter and during the first filter cleaning I spent a lot of time cleaning out bugs and leaves from between the pleats. I wish I bought it sooner and installed it when the filter was new.

Let's air in not big particles! Does need to be cleaned more often that the filter but does keep the larger stuff from damaging and plugging up the filter.
