Description

The BD-Power 1050227 OEM Bypass Lift Pump for your truck is a replacement pump for the weak factory lift pump that is a common failure item on Dodge Ram Pickups. The OEM Bypass pump installs by removing your factory lift pump from the fuel filter housing and relocating it onto the frame, away from all the harsh vibrations of the mighty diesel engine. This pump is best served as a stock replacement for stock to modified trucks around 50-100hp increase.

Features:
  • For Stock & Lightly Modified
  • Bypasses OEM Lift Pump

XDP TIP:
This is the pump you should go with if your stock pump has went bad. It is designed to bypass/eliminate the use of the stock pump on the motor. The way this pump works is it mounts on the frame rail w/ the supplied hardware and wiring harness that plugs directly into your factory harness.  This kit mounts on the frame because it's easier for the pump to push fuel rather than pull it from the tank and the vibrations from the motor shorten the life of the pump when it's mounted on the engine.  If your stock pump is still good and your just looking for a little added security you should look into the auxiliary pump.

So far so good

As of right now it has fixed my power loss issue. It went together easy and really simple. Only thing I don't like was the price but hopefully in the long run it was well worth it. Took me about 2 to 3 hours to do. Wasn't in a hurry just joking and hanging out with Dad while we installed the pump. He has been a diesel mechanic for close to 40 years. At first he also thought we could have found cheaper, but the way it went in and how it was designed he also liked it and was glad I got this lift pump. At this point I would recommend this product.

The hardest part of the process is removing the OEM pump. Three of the four allen head bolts are easy to remove. The lower bolt closest to the engine was a bugger to remove. When you install the billet adapter to the fuel filter housing, stick you little finger in the hole and remove the old o-ring. The install took about three hours. I can't believe the difference, the throttle response is much smoother and it even shifts better. The OEM is a cheezy plastic pump. This BD pump is stout and delivers the fuel promised. If you have access to a lift, it will be much easier to mount the pump on the frame under the drivers side standing up. Use a high speed cut off tool to cut through the stainless fuel line.

Questions and Answers

My 2003 5.9L lift pump is in the fuel tank. Do I have to remove it if I install this BD-Power 1050227 OEM Bypass Lift Pump?
View Staff Answer
Answer

This pump kit is designed to be a stand-alone system and is not designed to be used in conjunction with stock lift pumps. If your truck has been retrofitted with the Chrysler in-tank lift pump you will have to lower the fuel tank & delete the pump from in the tank. XDP offers a simple retrofit kit complete with instructions & the pieces needed to do this, part number BD1050302.

If you are unsure if your truck has been retrofitted simply check that the factory lift pump is still in place on the engine next to the fuel filter housing; if it is not there then your truck has the in-tank pump.

What is the pumps output fuel psi after installation?
View Staff Answer
Answer
Insert pulled directly from BD-Powers installation instructions: "Typically fuel pressure at idle should be around 14psi."

Below are the instructions for reference.
