Does not fit/install well
2
I'm a Master SAE certified mechanic and this kit was tricky to install. It does Not fit between the Upper and Lower radiator cap as you would expect. I spent a lot of time trying to wedge it in and it doesn't fit well enough to seal at the sides and base of the OEM radiator. Even the supplied brackets are not drilled and bent perfectly. IF they cannot mimic a simple shroud diameter (OEM Dimensions); what else do they sell that's designed the same way.
Update to my review regarding poor tow cooling
1
I have now had the OEM fan, viscous drive and shroud installed for 6 months and I have proven to myself that if you expect to tow DO NOT INSTALL THIS ELECTRIC FAN SETUP. They work fine for normal unloaded drivibg but will not provide adequate cooling needed for towing. The difference when towing is simply amazing. My coolant and tranny temps no longer creep up on long grades. Yes, mpg might have been a little better but if you have your truck as a TV do not risk cooking the engine!
Inadequate cooling for towing
2
This dual fan assembly has been installed on my 2003 7.3L Super Duty for several years and it works great so long as I am not towing. My new trailer is on the order of 7000 lbs which is well within the 20K GVR of my truck but the engine will overheat if the grade exceeds about 5%. I installed the fan override switch from Flex-A-Lite and found that it did help a little as I could switch the fans full-on prior to the grade but there just isn't enough airflow to keep the temps from soaring. Keep in mind that the fans draw ~36 Amps from the batt which equates to under 500 Watts which would be 0.67 Horse Power. The stock fan is supposedly 25 HP. I am in the process of changing back to the Ford fan and thermal clutch.

Questions and Answers

Is this specific flex-a-lite fan able to be used in towing or hotshot applications? I've seen different specs on this fan and some of them say that it shouldn't be used in "heavy" towing applications, and some don't say anything about towing. I was wondering if anyone had experience with using this in towing situations, or additional information regarding the use of it for towing?
