How can I tell if my hard starting problems are the relay, or the glow plugs? I have a '03 Ford Super Duty 7.3 and I have to turn the glow plugs on 3 or 4 times on a cold morning to get it to start. I'm not sure if it's the glow plugs, relay or something else.

If you suspect your glow plug relay is going bad you’ll want to check the voltage to see if you actually have power going to and from the relay. You may hear an audible clicking sound from the relay when the ignition is tuned on and off, but you’ll still need to verify you have power actually going to the glow plugs. If you determine that the relay is in fact good, then it would be safe to say it something further in the engine (injectors, glow plugs etc.).
