BD1045947 Review
4
I installed a BD-Power Exhaust Pulse Manifold on my 2002 RAM 2500 HO 6spd. I have a stock HX35 turbo. I am so far satisfied with the manifold and have seen a quicker mid-range turbo spool up (after 5psi, it increases rapidly to max). I have also noted about 60 - 100 degree F less EGT. I was a little disappointed in that you only receive two of the stainless cap head bolts (and washers) for the manifold instead of the 12 that are depicted in the photo (you will reuse the stock bolts). You also get two stainless cap head bolts (and washers) for the turbo housing which replaces two nuts. I was unable to install the manifold exactly per the directions since I could not remove the lower aft nut from the turbo housing/manifold flange with the turbo still in the engine compartment as described in the installation directions. The nut is located in a recess on the turbo housing under the wastegate stem and was too tight to remove with an open end wrench (the only thing I could get on the nut). I instead had to remove the turbo and the manifold as an assembly and dismantle on the workbench. This was not a huge undertaking; however, it was not exactly per the procedure. Overall, this is a pretty good product for the money.

You get what you pay for. It looks almost identical to the ATS manifold, and I think its better because of the EGT probe location. The BD has a better one, as compared to the ats. The installation was a bit tricky (took 6 hours), but I got held up putting the #5 cylinder bottom side bolt in. Removing the turbo is a must, I thought that you could just keep it on, but there is no way to do it without taking the turbo off. Anyways, I could definitely feel a performance difference. And my stock turbo spooled much faster. It even lowered the tone of the exhaust, and made it where you can more distinctly hear each cylinder fire. All and all, its a great manifold, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Exhaust leak fixed and spools faster!!

Bought this for my 96 because of an exhaust leak on the front two ports. The stock mani was seperating itself from the head and forcing the gasket to block part of the exhaust ports, so decided it was time to go for it and fix it correctly. It has lowered egts and the sound of my exhaust along with added a little more power it feels like. I did have to retap for the egt port as it did not catch as many threads as I hoped but would still buy again.

Questions and Answers

Will this manifold fit a 6.7L cummins?
View Staff Answer
Answer

The 2003-2007 BD-Power Exhaust Pulse Manifold will fit the 6.7L, but not as a stock replacement. (The 5.9L manifold is often used when the DPF, EGR & VGT have been disabled and the turbo is upgraded.)

Will this fit a 96 12valve?
View Staff Answer
Answer

BD item # BD1045980 will fit the 88-98 12V Cummins Pickups.

Which is the better manifold, stainless steel or the silicon ductile iron?
View Staff Answer
Answer

Stainless is better beings it will not crack, but most aftermarket cast iron manifolds are jointed in separate locations to allow expansion and contractions. This eliminates the common issue with cast iron manifolds cracking.

what flange is on this header? I have a 12 valve cummins and am putting a new turbo on it but it uses a t4 flange and need a header with a t4 flange
View Staff Answer
Answer

Most of the exhaust manifolds on our site are designed with the stock flange for the stock turbo, unless otherwise noted. We do actually offer T4 manifolds for your truck though. They are designed specifically for turbo swaps like the one you're doing. You can find them here: http://www.xtremediesel.com/exhaust-m...
