Increase your driving confidence and towing safety with the superior retarding performance of the BD Brake for ’89-’06 5.9 liter Cummins engines.  Using BD’s exclusive Variable Orifice Technology, BD’s turbo-mount design bolts in place of the factory elbow between the turbo and the exhaust system, providing peak retarding power throughout the engine’s rpm range—not just at high rpm like other brands. Our remote-mount models, meanwhile, mount in the exhaust pipe and are perfect for modified applications that may use an aftermarket turbo.

Designed for years of reliable operation, the BD Brake’s rugged cast-iron housing incorporates BD’s exclusive AlumiBronze bushing and piston ring-sealed, stainless steel butterfly shaft that has proven to stand up under the harsh, high-heat conditions of the exhaust environment. Actuated by an air cylinder (newer models) or a powerful, three-inch vacuum cylinder (earlier models), the offset butterfly valve won’t stick, and has been strategically placed in the elbow so that it won’t impede exhaust flow when in the open position. The BD brake incorporates a threaded port for mounting an  Exhaust Gas Temperature probe, as well as a 1/4-inch stainless steel port that can be used to monitor the brake’s retarding performance. Got a modified or twin-turbo application? BD’s remote-mount or vacuum-actuated four-inch kits are an effective solution.

Controlled by a lighted On/Off toggle switch for automatic transmissions, or stick-mounted rocker switch for manual transmissions, the BD brake communicates with the engine’s electronic idle verification board for quick engagement. The durable air compressor included in later model kits can even be used for other applications—it’s that tough.

Automatic-equipped trucks prior to 2006 require BD’s programmable Tow Loc and Pressure Loc kits to electronically control torque converter clutch engagement. This addition effectively reduces slippage, resulting in peak retarding performance as well as lower transmission temperatures.

All BD Brake kits come complete with the brake, air compressor (where applicable), mounting hardware and complete instructions.
Note: Not for use with aftermarket turbo's.

After reading the other review on here I admit I was a bit skeptical in purchasing this, I did anyways and I'm very impressed with the product especially being vacuum operated, everything seems very well built and rugged, the instructions weren't the best at all, not many pictures and vague but I'm a heavy equipment mechanic so it wasn't too terrible for me but the average joe would definately have a hard time , that lost a star and also they don't give you new bolts for the back of the turbo, mine have never been touched, same as a lot of people and I ended up breaking one, got it out but went to the hardware store and got 5 new metric bolts and never seized them in, other than that, brake works better than expected and at a very low rpm, I'll never own another truck without one!
Never again

Dodge Ram 2000 didn't fit exhaust down pipe, fitting on vacuum pump were wrong, instruction manual was vage ,poorly written and unclear, thier install video on YouTube just shows how to hook it to the turbo that's it. Now the wiring of this thing is impossible to figure out! I,ve ran an add in CL asking for a Diesel tach to help me install and no one will touch it! Very sad, after three weeks having my truck down, I'm taking it all off and boxing it back up to take to an on line auction, over a $1000 bucks for this and they don't enen bother with a detailed, vehicle specific instruction manual! Pretty much done doing business with XDP if they have knowledgeable staff working for them I haven't talk to them yet.
