Long before the tradition of the XDP Open House Weekend started, each year since XDP formed, our crew would head out on the third Saturday of September to legendary Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ for the annual U.S. Diesel Truckin’ Nationals.
It was from that Saturday (Day 1) U.S. Diesel Truckin’ Nationals event and their eventual inclusion of diesel pick-ups that we launched in 2010 our Sunday (Day 2) XDP Open House in conjunction with the U.S. Diesel Truckin’ Nationals. That two day, full weekend tradition has grown for eight straight years and trust us we were all set to make it nine.
Until…like many of you earlier this race season we got word that the iconic Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ had leased off a large portion of their property to an insurance company and that racing on the drag strip would not be possible anymore. We were shocked, after all last year at the U.S. Diesel Nationals we had competed with three vehicles from the XDP Race Team, our XDP Drag Truck, our XDP diesel junior dragster, and XDP’s “Xtreme Diesel” Diesel Powered Monster Truck during the Monster Truck and Thrill Show.
Then the news got worse. Not only would there be no drag racing, but because of the new space constraints, light duty diesel pick-ups would not be allowed entry in 2018 at the U.S. Diesel Truckin’ Nationals. We understood that was because after 42 years, the event had to first make space for the Big Rigs which the event originally was only focused on, but talk about a disappointment.
At first we thought, well that’s not great news for Saturday, but we’ll still host our Sunday XDP Open House. That would have been easy and perhaps in the future we might do just that. But XDP has a tradition of doing things big, of not scaling back, we “go big or go home”.
So while the XDP Open House Weekend will take 2018 off, we will be at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ for the U.S. Diesel Truckin’ Nationals on Saturday September 15th with an XDP booth. Please come say hello like always.
