Best chip on the market
(Unknown) | December 24th, 2006
I installed a Bully dog 6 position chip on my 97 powerstroke and it is by far the best on the market, I had a superchip in my truck and went to set it to the next level and It froze the computer and would not allow the truck to start I had to tow it to the dealer to reprogram the computer $90, Because superchip didnt want to do anything about, Bully dogs is by far the best My truck increased so much power it unbelievable, And the egt will not even get to the point where you have to let off even on the 75 hp setting, excellent product at and excellent price. Thank you

Most Popular Questions

I have over 300 hundred thousand miles on my 1997 250 7.3L, will it hurt to put the chip in now?
View Staff Answer
Not at all, but we highly recommend additional upgrades such as gauges, high flow 4" exhaust, and cold air intake system. A set of gauges will allow you to monitor specific engine vitals and keep a good eye on the truck. Air intake systems are one of the most common and least expensive performance modifications our customers make. Increasing air-flow leads to quicker turbo spool-up, improved fuel mileage and overall horsepower increases. Performance exhaust systems increase exhaust flow by eliminating the restrictive stock muffler, replacing factory crimped bends with smooth mandrel bent tubing, and increasing the overall pipe diameter. The benefits of increased exhaust-flow are reduced EGT (exhaust gas temperature), increased horsepower/torque, fuel mileage gains, and a deep throaty sound.
Do I need larger injectors with this chip? 97 7.3 15xxxx mil. farm truck. used to move hay, tractors and cows

do you have to install larger injectors to get the horse power? when useing chip 41611

The Bully Dog 41611 6 Position 4-Bank Chip will work with stock trucks and increase horsepower without any additional modifications required. To maximize power and efficiency it is benefical to increase airflow with an intake and exhaust system.
How hard is this to install?
View Staff Answer

The install is fairly straight forward and should take less than an hour to complete.

1. Remove the keys from the ignition and disconnect both batteries. Failure to do so may cause damage to the computer and chip

2. Locate the factory computer inside the cab. On 99-03 Trucks the computer is located beside the emergency brake bracket. On 95-97 trucks the computer is located behind the emergency brake bracket. To remove the bracket remove the (3) 13mm nuts from the bracket. For 95-97 trucks skip to step #7.

3. On the 99-03 trucks you must now locate the wiring harness on the fire wall in the engine compartment that goes to the factory computer. It is the harness closest to the fender and has a 10mm bolt holding it to the computer. Remove the 10mm bolt and slide the connection out of the firewall.

4. Go back inside the cab and remove the (2) 7mm bolts holding the computer in place. If your truck is a manual, remove the 10mm nut from the bottom of the bracket holding the computer and the 10mm bolt holding the top.

5. Once you have the computer loose, slide the computer and bracket out slowly.

6. Remove the computer from the plastic housing and remove the cap to expose the terminals

7. The terminals are coated in a rubberized protective coating. Use the supplied Scotch Brite Pad and Lacquer thinner to remove the coating. You will also need to use a small flat head xxxx driver to scrape the terminals.

Repeat this process 2-3 times to make sure you get a clean connection. Remember 95% of problems with the chip are due to insufficient cleaning of the connection.

8. Once you feel the connections are good and clean, place the chip on to the terminals. If you purchased a multi-position chip you will need to plug the switch into the chip first.

9. Now slide the computer back into the plastic housing with the side of the computer with an

“X” positioned toward the fender. Replace the bolts you removed earlier holding the computer in place.

10. Now reattach the wiring harness going through the firewall and tighten the 10mm bolt.

11. Reconnect the batteries and start the truck.

12. If the truck fails to start, remove the computer again and try cleaning the terminals again.

Which setting offers the best fuel economy?
View Staff Answer

Fuel economy can vary based on driving conditions, vehicle loads, and driving habits. Most users that don’t’ tow, or tow light loads infrequently, report that they get the best fuel mileage on the higher HP settings. The best way to determine the optimum fuel economy for your vehicle and driving conditions is to try each setting.
