These thermostats are designed as a direct-fit replacement for your aged factory units. The Mishimoto thermostats have a lower activation temperature (187F/197F) compared to the factory thermostats (192F/203F). The lower activation temperatures allow coolant to flow through the engine earlier, which reduces and maintains lower engine temperatures. These thermostats are ideal for use in warmer climates or under extreme towing/driving conditions.

Although the description of these thermostats claim to be 187/197, the actual temps vary far from it. Casual driving will not be an option because a thermostat trouble code will generate due to coolant only getting to 167 degrees after an hour of driving. Not only can you drive your truck normally, but even towing 5-6,000 pounds in 85 degree weather the coolant temp only got to 175 after an hour of continuous driving. Since coolant only got to 175 it threw a trouble code again. The only time these thermostats worked is when I was pulling my 11,000 lb camper to the beach which the warmest the coolant got was 195 and 90 degree weather and that's the only reason for the second star (generous). The only way this setup might work is if you keep the stock 192 degree in and replace the 203 degree stock thermostat with the aftermarket "low temp" 197 degree just to open sooner during towing conditions and be able to drive it normally. This has now turned into a $72 experiment.
