Works as advertised

Shipping was fast, easy to install. If you have the oil cross over line installed between your heads you will have to slightly tweak the line to clear the support bracket, can’t fault the part for that as it was designed with the engine in stock form. Not sure if it lowered egt or not as I do not at this time have a way to check. Does seem to help with reducing the turbo lag. If you are looking for the seat of your pants kind of gains this is not the part for that, but If you are looking at helping the engine with improved longevity this is it.

Feel the Power
Larry (Ohio) | August 22nd, 2018
The install was straight forward - took a little over and hour. Installing the support was tricky trying to get to the mounting hole on the engine, but everything else fell right into place. Noticeable improvement in quick spin-up on takeoff, and better power. I can see boost while cruising at highway speeds, without a load, which I have not had before. Have not used it for towing through the mountains yet, so don't know what it will do under that load. But, just local highway driving shows the EGT about 50 degrees lower than with the OEM manifold, so that should show an improvement with mountain towing.

Felt the GAIN!
Greg G. (Fremont Oh) | March 15th, 2012
I was geting a weird whistling sound from intake seals, changed them all and added the AFE intake.WOW, glad i did! no more funny whistle and much more POWER! easy installation, removal took 30 mins. and install of new was 1 hr. maybe lowered my egt's by 75 degrees. can't wait to expeirance mpg gains! over all great buy.

Not bad. Not great
Eric (Missippi) | June 17th, 2013
Overall pretty good product however not the most significant purchase I've made for my truck. Intake temp is about the same turbo spool up about the same. Install was easy good directions. Only thing is the support bracket did not line up. Don't know if it made a huge difference or not. Well see on mpg. I was expecting bigger differences in performance than I got. Not the best thing I've put on my truck as far as performance parts.

pretty good
Caleb Duff (Laramie Wy) | December 6th, 2013
took maybe a half hour or 45 minutes to install with cleaning up all the couplings and pulling out the older spider. makes it real easy to hook up a boost gauge. noticed that at freeway speeds i get around 5-6 psi constant with the stock turbo rather than no boost at all with the OEM part. might have been just because the OEM part was gunked up but either way I'm happy!

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the differences between this unit and what would be needed for an intake for an early '99 7.3? I am rebuilding a 7.3L Powerstroke built in August of 1997. Would like to add an intercooler. Intakes for these engines are scarce at best.
The entire intake system of the early 99 7.3L is different from the 99.5 7.3L. You'd have to go through an extensive amount of work and convert the entire system over to the 99.5 7.3L design.
What is the difference between the AFE and the CFM manifold?

Both CFM and AFE eliminate that heat tranfer by separating the turbo outlet elbow from the cool air engine inlet portion of the intake.

CFM uses a composite portion and a cast portion – The turbo exit elbow is manufactured from cast aluminum to handle the extremely hot turbo exiting air and high turbo pressures, but the cool air returning from your intercooler is now insulated from under the hood heat and kept from any turbo heat transfer. The composite portion of this intake system is made with the same highly engineered composite material that we use to produce all of our intake manifolds. This material is able to handle temperatures up to 400° F and also insulates your air flow from under the hood engine heat.

AFE uses 2 seperat cast portions – The AFE BladeRunner Air Intake Manifold is constructed of cast A356-T6 aluminum and features the patented MDV (Multiple Directional Vane) technology which helps increase intake velocity for increased flow, lower EGT's, improved MPG and faster turbo spool up times. This system contains one Bladerunner intake manifold which outflows the factory unit by 18% and one Bladerunner turbo outlet manifold that outflows the factory unit by 15%.

Can you still get this in red?

AFE BladeRunner Air Intake Manifold 46-10061 is not available in Red.

Would I be able to keep my factory air intake heater with this system, and still have a port to record my boost?

Yes! You can install the heating element as well as use the additional ports for a boost gauge, water methanol, N2O Etc.
