HOW DO I BLEED, OR PURGE AIR, FROM MY STEERING GEAR BOX SYSTEM?
1.    After installing the gearbox, fill the system with fluid.
2.    Raise the front wheels off the ground, do not start the vehicle.
3.    Work the steering wheel back and forth, lock to lock, 15-20 times.
4.    Leave the vehicle sit (overnight is best) at least 2 hours
5.    Top the pump reservoir off again.
6.    Work the steering wheel back and forth again 7-10 times
7.    Have a person in the vehicle and another at the pump reservoir with a container of fluid & funnel ready to pour if necessary.
8.    Instruct the person in the vehicle to start the engine. As soon as this happens, if the fluid level drops, be ready to pour in more fluid. The level must be kept at an almost full level or it will suck in air again.
9.    If this procedure is followed properly, the air problem will be solved.

Order #2182869. Installed the redhead gear box in my 2006 Silverado 2500hd. Has a 6” lift, on 35” tires. Follow the install instructions and you’re good to go. Only reason I give this 3 stars is because of the core charge. Got 3 shipping quotes all right at $85-$95 to ship back.

Steering is way tighter. My truck has run 40's most of it's life so far and has almost 200k on it. Box got sloppy. This box did not help the "dry steering" issue/still not able to dry steer. I even got the the hi-flow PSI power steering pump, and no better. The turn ratio is a little weird (what used to turn doesn't turn, you have to get used to turning more). Found it better if you just take your hand off the wheel and let it track itself anymore. Not upset with the purchase, but didn't find it to be "wow". Kinda wish I had kept stock steering ratio. Most important thing I have found, USE THE CORRECT FLUID! Just changed fluid, we'll see how it does from here on.

Redhead Steering box was so worth it. 2087858B

This is my second box, the first one a rebuilt box from Detroit Diesel. It blew up and started leaking 1 month later. I purchased this Redhead heavy duty box for my 2500HD 6 on 35". I never thought a steering box could actually smoothed out the steering but it was significantly better than the other brand. I also opted for the 18-1 ratio which RedHead seperates out. So glad I did, great box great service.
