Description

The Mean Green Gear Reduction Starter is the answer to all of your starter problems as it provides 100% more torque than an overweight stock starter. With a 4.4 to 1 gear reduction, roller bearing support, and an integrated solenoid, the Mean Green Starter can crank any engine no matter how high its static compression. The Mean Green Starter's 3" tool steel driveshaft is supported at both ends by bearings. The stainless steel pinion shaft is externally splined to mate with the larger diameter, internally splined driveshaft. Even the armature in the high-speed motor is supported at each end with bearings. All totaled, there are five bearings in the motor and gear assembly. That's one reason we include a 2-year Warranty at no charge on every starter, (Commercial and Racing applications carry a 1-year warranty). Another is the heat resistant, integrated solenoid which continues to operate even at extreme temperatures.

I see all the hype about this starter. It was about 20* outside and the thing turned over harder than i anticipated. Fantastic. But i bought this starter for the upcoming cold spell we had recieved in Wisconsin. In -30* temperatures, it seems to have failed me. Bench tested the starter and it was not working properly. I put the original starter back on the 7.3 and it started right up. Not impressed with the MG starter. Ill be buying OEM from here on out. Perhaps ill give them another shot on future summer-only projects.
Amazing

So it's not often I'm completely blown away by a product but today is the day. My 7.3 van has been slow starting since I bought it. Batteries have to be fully charged and can't be a "cold" Southern California morning. I've tried multiple glow plug cycles. New batteries. Relocated the batteries to make the wire runs shorter. New 2/0 cables. Nothing helped. Just the nature of the beast I thought. Lately it's been making an occasional grinding sound when starting but if you back of the key and try it again it went away. I didn't think it was the starter since it started. After someone else posted about their starter I decided to do a little research. Ended up buying the mean green starter. Pulled mine out and found the shaft was a little sloppy and broke some of the casting around the gear which is what the grinding was. Don't think it had anything to do with the slow start though. The starter I pulled out was a 2 bolt and in 2003 it was a 3 bolt which is supposed to be better. The mean green only comes in 2 bolt. It is advertised as "gear reduction" but upon physical inspection I couldn"t see a difference between the 2. I crossed my fingers and put it in. I cycled the glow plugs twice even though it was 75 out but it hasn"t been started in 2 weeks. MAN THIS THING CRANKS! Crazy fast. I usually try to splurge for better (more expensive) parts but most of the time I wonder if they were any better than the cheapo parts. I can honestly say this starter was definitely worth the price
Amazing!!

My starter finally gave up, and I contemplated on just another reman or spending the money on this beast. I was a little annoyed because I ordered it the 5th and was out of stock.(Nothing on the website stated it was Out Of Stock). I finally got it the 22nd. Upon installing; the 2nd stud that smaller wire hooks up to is actually bigger than the original. Thus having to change the end of the wire to fit the new starter. Everything else fit. I hooked the batteries back up. Put the key in and WOW. I've never had my truck crank that good and quick. It is Expensive.. but worth every penny.(get what you pay for most of the time). Going to recommend this to everyone I know. Thanks XDP for carrying this Product!
