In 2018 Ford introduced the 3.0L V6 Powerstroke as the first diesel engine to be used for their F-150 series trucks. This engine was based off the Ford Lion engine used in Land Rovers overseas, but also shares many features with the bigger 6.7L V8 Powerstroke. The 3.0L Powerstroke was designed to provide F-150 owners a durable, reliable, and fuel-efficient engine option. For the 2018 model year, the Ford F-150s underwent a mid-cycle redesign featuring an updated grille and new powertrain options. These F-150's had many different upgrades to aid in their increased engine efficiency including an aluminum body, variable-geometry turbocharger, and a high-pressure common-rail fuel system. When designing the 3.0L Powerstroke, fuel economy was one of the major focuses; Ford estimated this engine could provide up to 30 miles per gallon on the highway.

The 3.0L Powerstroke utilizes a Compacted Graphite Iron Block and Cast-Aluminum Cylinder Heads, the same combination used on the 6.7L Powerstroke. Inside this engine is a forged-steel crankshaft and lightweight aluminum pistons to provide strength and durability. The cast-aluminum oil pan attached to the bottom of the block has a rigid design to help reduce engine noise. One of the key performance components of the 3.0L Powerstroke is a Honeywell variable-geometry turbocharger that features an electronically-actuated wastegate. This engine also utilizes a 29,000 PSI common-rail fuel injection system that is powered by a Bosch CP4.2 injection pump and piezo-electric fuel injectors. The 3.0L Powerstroke features quick-starting glow plugs to help the engine start faster in cold weather conditions. To meet the requirements of the EPA emissions standards the 3.0L Powerstroke utilizes a selective catalytic reduction emissions system to significantly decrease emissions. These new features gave the 3.0L Powerstroke increased engine efficiency, durability, and performance over the competition.

A stock 3.0L Powerstroke is rated at 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque with the ability to maintain peak torque throughout the RPM range. These trucks come standard with the 10R80 10-Speed Automatic Transmission that allows for a maximum towing capacity of 11,400lb. For ideal performance, this transmission selects the proper gear according to load demand to help maximize fuel economy, extend the torque curve, and improve overall engine efficiency. The 3.0L Powerstroke engine utilizes a mechanical engine-driven fan and dual radiator shutters, that are designed to pull more air across the radiator and intercooler when towing heavier loads. During normal driving conditions when the dual radiator shutters aren't needed, they will close shut. These new features allow for improved towing in extreme conditions or high altitudes. While the 3.0L Powerstroke is a powerful and durable engine, production was discontinued following the 2021 model year. XDP continues to support this engine with parts and accessories from hundreds of the top manufacturers. Whether you're doing routine maintenance or adding performance components to your 2018-2021 3.0L Powerstroke XDP has what you need.
