Description
The Pureflow AirDog II-5G A7SABF593 DF-165-5G Air/Fuel Separation System from XDP is the newest generation in fuel delivery systems for your 2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke. The 5G is engineered to be the longest lasting, most efficient, and quietest lift pump system XDP has to offer. The AirDog II-5G features a 4-bearing motor with an intermediate shaft that reduces pump noise and improves reliability. The demand flow design allows the pump to only send the necessary amount of fuel to the engine. A dual feed design supplies fuel to both sides of the gerotor pump to decrease air bubbles and cavitation.
The AirDog II-5G utilizes a diaphragm style fuel pressure regulator that allows the pump to be boost referenced and adjusted from 7-70 PSI The 5G system features larger 3/4-16 O-ring boss inlet and outlet ports. A 7/16-20 (-4) low-flow return is used to prevent aeration in the fuel being sent to back to the tank. This diesel lift pump mounts to the frame rail using the supplied sandwich plate mounting system and replaces the factory frame rail fuel pump. The suction side hooks up to the factory suction line on the frame rail. The pressure side connects to the factory feed line to the injection pump. The AirDog Air/Vapor return is sent back to the tank through a return “Y” that ties the AirDog return to the factory engine return.

05 Excursion 6.0L. 370,000 miles still running with original Horizontal Fuel Conditioning Module (HFCM). Finally checked the fuel pressure at upper filter housing and found it to be around 43 at idle. Give some throttle, and it would drop to under 40psi. Installation of the AirDog was smooth. I installed it behind the transfer case. Plenty of fuel line comes with the kit. They could offer more variety of quick connects (straight and angled) for a custom application, but it worked out fine. Hardest part was getting the factory (HFCM) out and dropping the fuel tank (not AirDogs issue) My daughter had just filled the 44-gallon tank. Heavy, but was able to do it. Did not have to drop the tank, but wanted to check for the pickup tube end, and sure enough was missing. The AirDog came preset at 55psi, and it holds steady even when on the throttle. Perfect upgrade. Starts easier and feels much better. Thanks, XDP, for offering such a fine product.

This is an easy to install and complete kit for the Ford 6.0 PowerStroke. A major competitor’s kit requires fuel tank removal and modification greatly increasing the time investment and difficulty level. Not so with the Air Dog as its push lock hose and fittings make for a seamless installation. Pro tip: Center the unit between the fuel tank and the transfer case (4x4) on the left frame rail to prevent kinking of the hose and a T27 torx bit will fill in nicely for the 3/16 Allen wrench. You can easily install this kit with standard wrenches, however, flex-head ratcheting wrenches will make the installation even quicker. For the ultimate setup add a fuel return kit which will allow you to eliminate the factory fuel bowl/filter simplifying any future upgrades and repairs. Just remember that you’ll need to switch to a 6.4 engine oil filter housing when you do. Prepare to enjoy a quieter and quicker start, improved throttle response, and increased injector life with this ‘must have’ upgrade.
