Description

The ARP 250-4202 Head Studs are a must-have upgrade for your 03-07 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke. These extra heavy duty studs are rated at 220,000 psi tensile strength and provide the clamping force required to keep your 6.0L Powerstrokes cylinder heads from lifting due to higher combustion pressures.

Manufactured in ARPs Santa Paula, CA plant from proprietary ARP 2000 material, with threads rolled after heat-treating to provide optimum fatigue strength. They are centerless ground to assure perfect concentricity. Also included in each kit are heat-treated, chrome-moly steel 12-point nuts and parallel-ground washers, with a black oxide finish for extra durability. ARP also offers the Inner Row Head Bolts as an add-on to compliment this head stud kit (sold separately, see related items below).

I've used ARP products a lot over the years, and on the 6.0 they're especially good. Top-quality steel alloy, made in the US, and they take and hold torque with the lube. I torqued to 230lbf (between ARP's old and new advice) at night, then confirmed all of them in the morning, and they held as expected. Given the learnings over time I'd make sure it look up ARP's latest advice of course. The install is tricky with the cab on, but there are lots of good articles describing tricks like zip-ties to hold them up in certain places. Through taking it slow with a custom gantry crane I was able to get really good results.Now ~4000 miles in there are no signs of problems on new factory replacement blue gaskets on a 2003 (early build) 6.0, and it started up the first time. The original gaskets were stamped with a 2003 date code and lasted 110k, and I hope with ARP studs the new gaskets should last forever. Factory tune... for now. Thanks XDP!

The ARP 250-4202 Diesel Head Stud Kit is made from a proprietary ARP 2000 material. ARP2000 is an alloy steel that can be safely heat treated to a higher level, producing a greater strength material than 8740. While 8740 and ARP2000 share similar characteristics – ARP2000 is capable of achieving a clamp load at 220,000 psi. ARP2000 is used widely in short track and drag racing as an up-grade from 8740 chrome moly in both steel and aluminum rods. Stress corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement are typically not a problem, providing care is taken during installation.

Is there a difference in size, 18 or 20mm my truck is a 2003 Is this the correct kit for a 2003 6.0

The ARP 250-4202 DIESEL HEAD STUD KIT will fit all 2003-2007 Ford 6.0L Powerstroke engines regardless of the 18mm or 20mm dowel size in the heads.
