The Beans Diesel 210300 Machine Aluminum Gridlock Girdle Kit W/ ARPs Studs will upgrade the bottom end of your 2003-2018 Dodge Ram 5.9L/6.7L Diesel. The Bean Girdle was developed out of the need for an exceptionally strong lightweight girdle that provided a straightforward installation. The girdle does not require any extra unnecessary parts and does not interfere with the oil pan requiring dents for installation. Beans has used other girdles that were available on the market and there were always issues. Issues such as washer & spacers that would often crack and snap, studs that were too long, requiring divots to be hammered into the pan that caused oil leaks, and one-time use lock nuts.
The Beans Diesel Machine Aluminum Gridlock Girdle not only fixes the problem listed above but also increases the strength of the main caps. This strength is added by locking the main caps in place with dowel pins and tying in the entire bottom side of the block by incorporating every available bolt to every edge of the block. To strengthen the main cap strength even more, preload set screws are included in the middle of each main cap. This helps stop the main caps from bending under the intense loads of a high-horsepower engine.
So, why use aluminum instead of steel for a girdle? Beans first made girdle out of tool steel but the machine time was extremely long and more tedious, and the finished product was absurdly heavy! After giving it some thought, Beans asked why the girdles needed to be a tough tool steel. A girdle system is designed to tie the main caps together to help prevent the main cap walk as well as attach each side of the block together. All these forces are tensile forces, and while tool steel can have over 2 times more tensile strength, the overall thickness of this girdle more than compensates for the difference. Other girdles on the market are only around .300" thick, this is less than half the thickness of the Beans gridlock girdle. That means this girdle offers more than DOUBLE the tensile strength of the leading competitor's girdle while weighing less. Pressed-in steel inserts at the main studs prevent the main stud nuts from compressing the more malleable aluminum. These inserts also lock the mains in place with a built-in locating dowel. This girdle is O-ringed for an outstanding seal to the block surface.
