Replace the tired diesel engine in your Dodge D/W truck with a Choate Reman 5.9 Long Block Crate Engine - Model C. While the Dodge diesel engines have been known for their reliability over the years, they also have some common shortcomings. The Model C addresses these issues effectively, ensuring improved performance and reduced downtime for customers. With enhancements like Choate Billet freeze plugs and a new oil pump, this engine is designed for long-lasting reliability.
The full CNC blueprint machining process includes precision boring, decking, honing, and line honing to meet exact specifications. The cylinder bores are bored to a true 90 degrees from the crankshaft centerline and diamond honed to within .0002 inches for precise piston-to-cylinder bore clearances. The main housing is also honed to ensure perfect alignment of the crankshaft within the engine block. Each piston diameter is measured to the nearest .0001 inches to match the cylinder bores precisely.
The Model C is equipped with new pistons, piston rings, pin retainers, and OE tappets. The crankshaft is polished and ground to a concentricity of .0005 inches or less, ensuring smooth operation. New rod bearings, main bearings, and cam bearings are included for enhanced reliability. Furthermore, as the standard freeze plugs in the block can possibly blow out, every Choate engine comes equipped with blow-out-proof billet freeze plugs that are securely bolted to the block. In addition, the cylinder head receives new upgraded oversize valve seats and blow proof threaded plugs.

Choate Long Block Note:
Long
Block engines typically consist of a short block with cylinder head
and are ready for the final buildup. This long block does
not include bolt-on components such as the valve cover, intake, exhaust, fuel system, or turbo components.
These items will need to be changed over from your existing engine or
purchased new, and installed onto your new Choate Long Block before
installation into your truck.Common Issues (and How Choate Fixes Them):
Cylinder Head - While there are not as many issues with the bottom end, there are issues with the head.
Valve seats can fallout and contact the piston and cause catastrophic failure. Choate machines oversize valve seats within creased press fit area to remedy this issue.
Stamped gallery plugs in the head can blow out causing a mixture of oil and coolant, destroying the bearings. Choate threads the head and inserts threaded plugs to make sure this does not happen.
In addition, Freeze plugs in the block blow out leaving you at best stranded on the side of the road, at worst, with a severely overheated engine in need of remanufacturing. Every new Choate engine comes standard with Billet freeze plugs that use a tie bar bolting them into the side of the block, so they don’t blowout.
