The Diesel Site DSFF64 Fuel Filter / Water Separator System from XDP is an excellent upgrade to the fuel system in your truck.
How The Diesel Site Fuel Filter / Water Separator System Works
This fuel system features a separator cone in the bowl of the filter that removes water and all large contaminants. Removing the larger debris in this manner greatly increases the life of the fuel filter. The fuel then flows into the higher section through a 2-micron particle separator. At this point, you have very clean, water-free diesel fuel moving through your fuel system. With a quick glance under the truck, you can view the bowl for water and impurities. The water is eliminated by opening the petcock at the bottom of the bowl. Diesel Site suggests the use of Dahl brand replacement elements as they feel Dahl perfected this concept and it is still one of the best.

How often do I change filters?
Typical filter changes would be 10-15k miles, however, for your convenience, Diesel Site has a filter minder installed so you can monitor the condition of the filter. When the filter minder says "service filter", just unscrew the bowl, clean the parts, and change the filter. The replacement filter comes with a new O-ring to reseal the bowl.
How durable is the "glass" bowl?
The plastic bowl is a very tough polycarbonate. It is manufactured to withstand road debris and heavy-duty use on trucks. If you were going off-road with your truck where logs or rocks might hit the filter, then a skid plate might be a good option to protect the filter just as you would want to protect anything else under the truck. But road trucks need not worry about road debris, gravel, sand, etc.
How do I tell if there is water in it?
The diesel fuel will float on water, so water will collect in the bottom of the bowl. You will see a definite separation line between the water and fuel. Just drain the bowl until you see the water empty. Many times, many of the large contaminants lying in the bottom of the bowl will also drain out as well. If the bowl has large amounts of debris in it, and the filter is not clogged, you can take the bowl off and clean and re-install it without changing the filter.
Why do we need quick connects and not just cut and splice the OEM fuel lines?
Individual components of the factory fuel lines are not available. If you cut them and damage them, you would have to purchase an entirely new fuel rail kit from Ford. By using quick connects, there is no risk of damage to the fuel system. The quick connects also help the ease of installation of the system.
Will this stop algae from getting through?
Yes. Algae can be a big issue in modern-day ULSD fuels because it tends to absorb water. If you get bad fuel with Algae in it, you will have to run some sort of algaecide to kill the algae blooms. However, when the algae is destroyed, the dead algae expands a vast amount. This process of cleaning out the algae in the fuel will possibly take several filters before your tank is algae-free. Do not fill the tank with new fuel until you have completely run it down as low as possible with the algaecide in it.
