The Hamilton Cams 07-C-178/208 Camshaft is the most efficient cam tested for the 1989-2018 Dodge 5.9L/6.7L Cummins. On a moderate street truck, it will net you the best economy out of all Hamiltom Cams. Due to its short duration and wide lobe separation angle, it also has the least overlap (when intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time) of any Hamilton cams to kill in cylinder EGR on engines that have higher drive pressure than boost pressure. This is usually found with stock turbos that have a very restrictive turbine housing or turbine wheel. In engines there is always a trade off for different performance parts. On a truck with a 62mm turbo and 80hp injectors, this cam picked up 40hp at 1700rpm due to the fact that it moves so much air at lower rpms and helps the turbo spool much sooner. The trade off? It gives up power compared to our larger cams above 2600 rpm(still above a stock cam). If you live at high altitudes, tow heavy or are looking for the best efficiency possible for highway driving, this cam will help you considerably. Install with the intake from a 97-99 centerline. Although it works great as an efficiency cam, it is also popular with common rail engines that have larger single turbos or that have larger valves and ports. Larger turbos typically have less low rpm response as do cylinder heads with large ports and/or large valves. In these applications, it will really help get large turbos spooled much earlier. The Hamilton Cams 07-C-188/220 Camshaft for your 1989-2018 Dodge 5.9L/6.7L Cummins, has outperformed any other cam that Hamilton has tested against to date, from idle to 4,200 rpm. It is also the largest drop-in cam that Hamilton offers.Use with 62mm or larger single turbos or larger twins. Install intake on a 99 centerline, performance springs and pushrods are recommended. If you have had your head or block surfaced, you need to verify piston to valve clearance. For it to be "drop in" on a 12v you will need no more than .018" piston protrusion and at least .055" valve face depth with a standard head gasket and a 99 intake centerline. On a 24v you will need no more than .018" piston protrusion and at least .038" valve face depth with a standard gasket. If you do not meet the minimum requirements for piston to valve clearance, don't worry, you can still run an oversize headgasket or cut valve reliefs. If you're making over 30lbs of boost/drive pressure or over 3500rpm with your 1989-1998 Dodge 5.9L Cummins, Hamilton Cams 07-S-001 Beehive Valve Springs will help fix several negative things that you're experiencing. First, valve float, which can cause serious damage to the valvetrain. Second, intake and exhaust valves can be blown open by boost and exhaust drive pressure which allows reversion. Reversion can hurt your power potential by allowing exhaust gasses to enter the cylinder on the intake stroke. Inert gasses in the exhaust, when re-introduced into the cylinder shield the fuel particles from oxygen in the cylinder. This does a few things that negatively affect power. It increases the time delay from start of injection to start of combustion, it decreases the maximum pressure and maximum temperature reached in the cylinder and it increases the total time needed to completely burn the available fuel. Correct valve spring pressure is a very important piece of power production. Hamilton has seen 10-12 hp increases with customers changing their 60Lb. spring to their beehives. These springs will work well up to 5,000 rpm with moderate cams. If you are spinning over 5,000 with a healthy cam, and/or larger valves, then you need to look at going to the Hamilton Cams dual spring for safety and valve control.
