Many 2019 and up GM vehicles are equipped with an Air Filter Life System (AFLS) that will send a message to the instrument cluster, indicating air filter life and when the filter should be replaced. This system is calibrated for the OEM intake system and air filter and, as such, will not be accurate when K&N products are in use.
K&N recommends that you disable this system. When the monitor indicates it is time to replace the air filter, it can be reset by the vehicle owner. However, after resetting it several times, it may eventually show up in red and, at that point, will no longer be able to be reset by the vehicle owner. The vehicle must then be taken to a GM Dealer to have it reset.
To eliminate this potential issue, K&N recommends that the AFLS be disabled PRIOR to installing the new intake kit or air filter. Follow your owner’s manual procedure titled “How to Reset the Engine Air Filter Life System”. When you get to the screen with the choices “Reset”, “Disable”, & “Exit”, first reset the AFLS, and then disable the system.
