MAHLE 67857 Rear Main Engine Crankshaft Seal

This seal kit is the kit WITH a repair sleeve designed to be installed with the correct install tool (Torque King 4x4 TS6000 or similar), in-chassis, as an assembly. It is not designed to be installed WITHOUT the wear sleeve like the Mahle 48384 seal kit, which differs in that it includes the steel centering ring and plastic install sleeve to help the teflon lip stretch over the crank hub. The install "sleeve" in this kit's case is the wear sleeve and both must be installed at the same time. The seal in this kit is also slightly larger in diameter to accommodate the wear sleeve so it will likely leak, if installing it in a situation that will not use a repair sleeve, due to the lower lip tension against the crank hub. You need to use sleeve retainer between the crank and the repair sleeve or it will seep oil between the crank and the sleeve, and must use a soap/water mixture to lubricate the outside of the seal or it will tear the rubber going in. All of this assumes you are using the correct aforementioned install tool which pulls it all in as an assembly correctly and sets both sleeve and seal to the correct depth in one shot. UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE PURCHASING. If you just want a rear main seal without the repair sleeve, get Mahle 48384.

This seal is missing the plastic sleeve used to ease the installation often included in most brands. So be careful because the first seal was torn by me but, should have been easier.

In past, I have purchased a similar product that comes with a plastic sleeve that assists in sliding seal over crank but this one doesn’t, and seal tore. Partly on me but wouldn’t have happened if they came with that install sleeve 1418483
