The Merchant Automotive 10192 Fuel Filter Head Rebuild Kit for your 2001-2010 GM 6.6L Duramax allows you to rebuild your leaking Fuel Filter Head. Over time, the Fuel Filter Head can leak, causing hard start and priming issues. The Merchant Automotive Filter Head Rebuild kit comes with the seals needed to rebuild a leaking fuel filter head on a 2001 to 2010 Duramax engine. The fuel filter head is mounted on the passenger side of the engine on pickup truck models, while it is located on the driver side for Medium Duty Top Kick and Kodiak.
In addition to being the mounting location for the fuel filter, the fuel filter head also acts as the primer for the supply side of the fuel system since an external lift pump is not standard from the factory. The filter head also houses the fuel heater to help in cold-weather operation.
Common filter head issues include visible external fuel leaks as well as internal leaks that are not visible. Bad seals will cause the primer to lose the vacuum needed to pull fuel from the tank, introducing air into the fuel system that can cause the engine to start, then stall immediately. Replacing the internal seals in the fuel filter head is a straightforward job that can easily bring the Duramax engine back to life if it was suffering from leaks within the filter head.

Followed along with a video online showing step by step replacement of each gasket. I ended up reusing one old gasket as one of the two on the primer button would not seat well against the primer button interior.

I was hesitant at first but after watching a video or two, it ended up being a fairly simple job. My truck started right up and runs now. Which is all I want. I also added the metal bleeder screw to replace the worn out plastic screw which destroyed itself upon removal during the o-ring rebuild. I’m extremely satisfied with the overall purchase.
