The Mishimoto MMTC-RAM-TBV Thermal Bypass Valve Kit will prevent the 68-RFE or Aisin AS69RC transmission from overheating in your vehicle. The transmission is the backbone of your truck and is responsible for transmitting up to 930 lb.-ft of torque from the engine to the wheels. That much torque generates a lot of heat and if that heat isn’t dissipated it can burn up your transmission. The factory transmission cooler does a decent job of keeping transmission fluid temperatures in check, but only if the fluid can reach the cooler. The OEM cooling system of both the 68-RFE and Aisin AS69RC transmissions utilize an in-line thermal bypass valve that governs the flow of fluid to the transmission cooler. The purpose of this valve is to stop transmission fluid from flowing to the cooler until it reaches operating temperature. The thermostat inside this valve is likely to fail, however, and when that happens, the fluid never flows to the cooler and the transmission can overheat.

The Mishimoto thermal bypass valve utilizes a replaceable thermostat that is more durable than the OEM thermostat and opens about 10 degrees lower. This allows fluid to flow to the cooler sooner, without over-cooling to ensure it gets to the correct operating temperature. For owners in hot climates, the Mishimoto valve comes with a bypass that allows full flow to the transmission cooler, regardless of temperature. The bypass can be quickly installed with only a wrench for summer or winter driving. The Mishimoto thermal bypass valve flows better in either configuration than the factory valve for more effective cooling. External cooling fins machined into the valve body offer additional heat dissipation.
