PPE Heavy-Duty Cast Aluminum Deep Engine Oil Pan

This is a nice pan, but it is a VERY difficult install! I have a 4x4 Silverado and the videos I found on the installation process are not accurate. Removing the crossbar, dropping the front differential, and removing the sway bar are not necessary to remove the old pan and install the new pan. Having the right tools and a myriad of extensions, shallow sockets etc. to get the bolts in and out is a must. This by itself isn't a big deal for someone who regularly works on cars. The issue is the last row of 4 bolts on the radiator side of the pan are up behind the power steering/lane deviation motor and impossible to get at with normal tools (or abnormal tools for that matter). These cannot be torqued without removing that motor. Removing the motor involves disassembly of the engine bay around the radiator to get at those bolts in addition to all the control arms and linkage to the steering underneath! The manual for this pan simply discusses the need for Permatex and the bolt tightening pattern. Beyond that you are on your own. Had the manual accurately described what needed to be done and removed to install this pan, I most certainly would not have installed it thus the rating of 3 stars. This install is for a seasoned mechanic with a wide range of specialized tools and knowledge in my opinion. I would describe myself as mechanically inclined but by no means a professional mechanic.

PPE hit the nail on the head for this one. Increased quantity prolongs the life of the motor and seeing it is a full cast aluminum pan vs. a stamped steel pan, oil temps have dropped which will prolong the life of the oil.
