Pure Junk is a more appropriate name

I don't like to write negative reviews but this one deserves it. And this is not a reflection on XDP but the brand PurePower and this product specifically. We installed the turbo and had a low boost code so we pull it back on the rack and start checking for leaks. Low and behold, the supposedly verified and tested turbo (per mfg website and a lengthy discussion with their sales rep before we ever decided to give them a try) had a massive leak at the compressor housing to backing plate junction!!!! How in the heck does that get through any QC test... aside from it not being tested at all of course!!! Quite clearly a manufacturing defect and after a closer inspection there was even a small gap visible to the naked eye at the leak area. Yeah, after several days of emails and "proving" the leak by uploading a YouTube video (they don't have a way to accept large files like a Dropbox account or FTP etc so we uploaded it to YouTube), the MFG agreed to warranty it. Of course neither the MFG nor XDP had any in stock to ship as an advanced replacement so we could get the customer out the door (not that we had any interest in being a test site a second time when it was ALL at our expense) so XDP agreed to a refund after sending the defective unit back... Still waiting on the money to come back but the worst part is that the MFG doesn't cover labor... 8 hours rack and tech time we could have been making money instead of going backwards putting on the new Garrett that we replaced it with, not to mention putting the customer in a rental for several days while we waited on the next turbo and re-did the job. Had they are least paid Mitchell labor rate for the job of making us replace their out of the box defective product we might have considered using them in the future but this was a first and last use of this brand for our shop. There is a YouTube video we posted for evidence of the ridiculous leak when it was installed. For our time and money, from now on we go new or rebuild it ourselves so we know it ACTUALLY gets a thorough QC before it gets installed. Oh, and although it actually came with gaskets, the drain tube gasket was improperly cut (wrong hole spacing) and since they supplied a metal gasket we weren't going to mess with trimming it to fit so we bought a Mahle gasket to replace their faulty gasket. If you are a DIY'er and don't mind doing the same work 2 or more times (and have no real deadline for completion) just to save every possible dollar on parts, then maybe this could work out for you to be the "cheapest" way to get your truck back on the road. No thanks.
