Tech Notes:
Depending on the conditions, a starter can pull up to 500 amps. These levels of amperage stress ALL components in the circuit including cables, terminals, batteries, and more. Problems with these components can be difficult to diagnose as they appear fine at rest and under a light load, but generate high resistance under heavy amperage draws. This results in low voltage to the starter while cranking, causing heavier amperage draw, and increased heat leading to starter failure. Batteries, cables and additional components should be checked and serviced regularly. Voltage measured at the starter during cranking should always be above 11V DC. Starter heat shields are not required, but are an excellent idea for heat protection.

My 2003 Cummins had been having some charging issues. I replaced my crossover cable, batteries, and alternator. I then started having starter issues. This starter woke my truck back up and looks great! Also has a two-year warranty. Get the XDP bolts with it, the old bolts are a pain getting off, and I would not advice putting them back in.

Wasn’t sure what to expect. My starter had completely quit working so I decided to try XDP starter for my 2006 ram 2500 and I was very impressed. Fires right up with increased crank speeds. I would definitely recommend checking batteries to insure everything will work smoothly.

Only had the starter installed for one week, so cannot comment on durability, but initial quality seemed good. Truck was cranking slow like the batteries were weak, but batteries were fairly new and load tested as 97% CCA life. Cleaned terminals and checked grounds without improvement. Got this starter and it cranks faster than I ever remember the ol cummins cranking in the past. Starts almost as fast as a 12 valve
