Description

Upgrade the factory head bolts in your 2003-2007 Ford 6.0 Powerstroke with the XDP X220 Series Head Stud Kit XD3001HS. With only four head bolts per cylinder, and just 10 per bank, the 6.0 engine is infamous for cylinder head gasket issues. When adding horsepower and torque to your Powerstroke, or even in stock applications as preventive maintenance, upgrading the factory head bolts is a necessity to avoid a lifted cylinder head, or a failed head gasket, due to factory bolt stretch. Each stud is constructed utilizing 8740 Chromoly Steel with an added proprietary element. The threads are then rolled after heat-treating to provide optimum fatigue strength. These heavy-duty Ford 6.0 head studs are rated at a 220,000 PSI tensile strength to ensure the cylinder heads on your engine stay locked in place under higher combustion pressures.

In addition to the upgraded strength, replacing the OEM head bolts with studs also allows you to obtain a more accurate torque reading. A conventional bolt gets twisted as it is tightened, so it's reacting to two different forces at the same time. With a head stud the force gets applied to the vertical axis, resulting in a more even clamping force. Another benefit of studs is they can provide for easier engine assembly and proper alignment of the cylinder heads every time. These studs are a must-have for high-performance applications and are reusable, unlike the OEM Torque-To-Yield (TTY) bolts which must be replaced after each use. For a hassle-free installation, each set includes installation instructions. These 6.0 Powerstroke Head Studs are a direct-fit for 2003-2007 Ford F-250/350/450/550 Super Duty, 2003-2005 Ford Excursion, as well as 2004-2010 Ford E-Series Vans.

Features:
  • 220K PSI Tensile Strength
  • Threads Rolled After Heat Treating
  • Will Not Stretch Like The Factory Studs
  • 10mm Studs Test Out At A Max Load: Over 120KN
  • High-Strength 8740 Chromoly Steel Construction With Added Proprietary Element
  • Studs Are Reusable, Unlike Torque-To-Yield (TTY) Bolts Which Much Be Replaced After Each Use
  • Includes Washers & 12-Point Nuts

TECH TIPS:
Inner Row Head Bolts (Sold Separately):
The XDP Inner Row Head Bolt Kit XD3020HB allows you to complete the job without having to reuse the factory bolts, or source a new set while your engine is torn down. Inner row head bolts secure the intake side of the cylinder head to the engine block and help to properly complete the factory bolt torque sequence.

XDP Thread Cleaning Chasers (Sold Separately):
Both the XD40126TC (for head studs), and XD40128TC (for inner row bolts) are a great add-on that will be critical during installation. Thread Cleaning Chasers are an excellent tool to have on-hand to ensure you have properly cleaned the threads in your engine block before the installation of any fasteners. Clean threads provide accurate torque readings and will help give you peace of mind during your engine build or head gasket repair.

Fastener Assembly Lubricant (Sold Separately):
The use of assembly lubricant is highly recommended during engine assembly. Apply lubricant to head studs, head bolts, main studs, main bolts, connecting rod bolts, and any other fasteners used during engine assembly. Using a proper assembly lubricant during fastener installation reduces friction and torque pre-load scatter in the torqueing sequence, while also helping to prevent thread galling and seizing.

2 Year / Unlimited Mileage

I have been using these on engines since they came out, seem to be holding up great. It would be nice if they came with thread lube. Torque specs and sequence is provided.

Dr. Cole Schmitt (Alabama) | August 12th, 2025
Studs delivered pretty fast which is a trait of XDP. Packaging of Studs Superb, Excellent, never seen packaging of that caliber before. PRICE is way lower that other Studs. Over $100 Lower. All instructions very good. Studs installed very well. THIS is my 3 set of Head Studs from XDP that I have installed. I have over 120 6.0L bullet proofs and I like XDP head studs. No problems with any of the 3 bullet proofed 6.0L I have done with XDP Head Studs.
