Great Product

The adapter for the Caterpillar fuel filter works great. Easy install. And best of all the Caterpillar filters are cheaper than the factory filters and just as good if not better.

I am satisfied with my purchase, HOWEVER, it could have come with some type of instructions. The only paper I received was my invoice. I received no instructions. Please make sure you watch XDPs’ video on how to install this thing. You aren’t as smart as you think and you don’t know everything so watch a how-to video and humble yourself. Please make sure you put the small thin O-ring and the small thick O-ring in the correct spot or else you’ll have to take it back off like I did because it would not stop leaking. Oh, and the adapter has to be WAY tighter than hand tight just an FYI. Be careful and do not, I repeat, do not try to tighten the adapter by tightening the filter- just trust me. I almost did not get the adapter off of the filter. To summarize my 2-day long journey of a 20-minute job; take your time, do it right, and make sure you’re either Thanos or you have the correct tools to tighten this adapter on. The filter itself did not have to be super tight- just the adapter, otherwise it will leak.

Order #1821112. So far so good.

I received the product promptly and in good condition. I replaced the stock GMC filter with the new CAT adapter and filter in my 2012 GMC LML. Install was easy. Filter appears to be working well so far.

Questions and Answers

What about the water in filter (WIF) sensor that goes on the bottom of the factory filter?
View Staff Answer
Answer

The Water in Filter (WIF) sensor at the bottom of your factory filter is disconnected. This sensor can be saved or discarded as it will not be re-installed. (Removal of the WIF sensor will not trigger a check engine light.)

Many will argue that the stock Duramax water separator is marginal. In our opinion, you’re better off running a quality fuel additive that totally disperses water like XDP’s Diesel Power Plus additive. This concentrated formula offers a combination of ingredients that not only improves lubricity, fuel economy, and overall performance, but also offers a number of preventative properties to help keep your diesel engine at its optimal performance. The fuel treatment comes in a 16 ounce bottles that treats up to 500 gallons of fuel. (Made in the USA - Item #XDDPP116)

How offten would this fuel filter need changing? I alos did not see if the fuel filter has a water relief valve.
View Staff Answer
Answer
Suggested Filter Service Intervals:

Used as the primary fuel filter – 10,000 Mile Intervals
Used as the secondary filter along with an aftermarket fuel filtration systems (Airdog, FASS, Fuelab, Etc.) – 50,000 Mile Intervals

(The CAT Filter does not offer a water relief valve. We recomend running a quality fuel additive that totally disperses water like XDP’s Diesel Power Plus additive.
Is the CAT filter more prone to clogging from fuel gelling?
View Staff Answer
Answer

Diesel fuel can begin to cloud around 32ºF and gelling can begin as high as 10ºF - 15ºF (depending on fuel quality and location). Gelling of diesel fuel can only be avoided by using fuel additives to lower the cloud and gelling point of your fuel. Running untreated diesel, in these weather conditions, can clog filters regardless of the filter micron.

Can this be ran without an aftermarket lift pump?
View Staff Answer
Answer

Absolutely, the XDP Duramax CAT Adapter can be run on vehicle with or without aftermarket fuel systems.
