Modern vehicles feature dozens of sensors. Over time, these sensors can fail and throw error codes. It is common for the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor to fail because of its constant exposure to elevated temperatures. Camshaft Position (CMP) and Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensors work together with the vehicle’s ECU (Electronic Control Unit) to ensure that the timing of the rotating assembly is correct for peak engine efficiency. These sensors can fail because the magnets inside the sensor are exposed to millions of rotations of the cam/crank which weakens the magnets inside and results in poor signal transmission. The Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) measures the volume and temperature of air entering the engine’s intake tube and provides the information to the vehicle's computer. The computer then uses this information to calculate and confirm the amount of air coming in, exhaust gases that will be leaving, the amount of fuel required, and other factors that help the vehicle run efficiently. A Mass Air Flow Sensor often fails due to dust, dirt, and road debris getting past your air filter and collecting the elements on the MAF sensing element or a blockage of the airflow path.
