Upgrade the worn steering gear in your Dodge Ram 2500/3500 with the XDP Stock+ Power Steering Gearbox (New) XD750. The most common cause of a failing steering gearbox (also known as a
steering gear or steering box) is long-term wear and tear. Over time,
internal components such as the worm gear, sector gear, and bearings can
wear down or get damaged. Other contributing factors may include rough
road conditions, potholes, and fluid leaks.

Symptoms
of a worn steering gearbox include a leaking sector shaft seal,
excessive play in the steering wheel (loose or unresponsive steering),
or the vehicle wandering or pulling while driving. Other signs to watch
for are difficulty turning, leaking fluid, a stiff steering wheel, and
grinding or clunking noises coming from the steering system. As the
condition worsens, you may also notice that more effort is required to
steer, especially at lower speeds or when maneuvering.

Avoid this steering box!

I’ve installed countless gear boxes from literally every manufacturer. They all are terrible and some are less terrible. I chose this XDP brand box as it was a new brand I’ve never tried. I bought two of these and they both failed me not even two month in use. One box lasted two months and the other was awful out the gate. Super sloppy, 4”-5” of slop turning left and right. Very dangerous. Avoid this style box! With that said, the upgraded XDP brand 6 bolt box for the newer models actually work great. I’ve installed 3 of the 6 bolt XDP non adaptive steering boxes and so far I’ve had great luck. You have to upgrade the steering shaft & pitman arm to make that box fit on an older model. A new pump is a must as well.
