XDP's HD Gear Reduction Starters feature an efficient motor that give you the torque you need to reliability start your engine. Each XDP starter comes pre-tested, ready for installation, and features a durable "Wrinkle Black" finish for corrosion resistance and aesthetics.

Tech Notes:
Depending on the conditions, a starter can pull up to 500 amps. These levels of amperage stress ALL components in the circuit including cables, terminals, batteries, and more. Problems with these components can be difficult to diagnose as they appear fine at rest and under a light load, but generate high resistance under heavy amperage draws. This results in low voltage to the starter while cranking, causing heavier amperage draw, and increased heat leading to starter failure. Batteries, cables and additional components should be checked and serviced regularly. Voltage measured at the starter during cranking should always be above 11V DC. Starter heat shields are not required, but are an excellent idea for heat protection.

Purchased a starter that cranks way faster than the NAPA brand, starter failed to contact. The company was given two options of returning it being that I have two of these trucks I purchased a second starter for my other truck put that starter on replacing the one that failed shipped it to him on a Wednesday they received it Friday. I had another one coming to me the next day free charge. Things are bound to go wrong in life really appreciate their quick response and their support adding the warranty, I purchased all the products from them as well. Very happy with everything they offer.

Solid, but awkward wiring terminal

The starter appears solid and well-built and has been working well for 2 weeks. The starter circuit wiring terminal is swapped to the inboard side, up next to the exhaust manifold, which makes attaching the wire difficult. A blade terminal adapter is included to make it easier, but this requires cutting the OEM starter terminal to replace it with a blade connector. Not sure why they felt the need to change the factory setup.

Starter failed month after purchase

Starter failed one month after buying. The connection inside starter motor broke off and wouldn't start. Would not recommend starter especially since the warranty policy they have for it is terrible. Basically, you have to but another starter and they determine if they refund you so may be out the cost of 2 starters because of the terrible quality of their starter.

Cranks a lot faster

To be fair my old starter was very weak, but this is definitely a whole different sound than a factory duramax. Sounds like a 6.7 Powerstroke when it cranks now. So far very pleased, and for only a little more money than a parts store starter you get one that’s American made.
