What happens if u don't put the magnet back?
It is highly recommended to run a magnet. The magnet collects ferrous shavings and prevents them from circulating through your transmission. Not using one could cause more wear in your transmission.
The magnet looks like it covers the holes by half and could cause restricted flow. Is this normal?
These transmissions are equipped this magnet on the filters from the factory. They will not cause a restriction in flow.
