Description

The Banks Power 67137 Derringer Tuner will enhance the drivability and power output of your GM 6.6L Duramax L5P. The Banks Derringer is designed for diesel enthusiasts who work their Duramax 6.6L trucks. This tuner provides a massive increase in torque across the working RPM range of the engine. Choose from 6 power levels while cruising down the road, including fuel economy calibrations, work, and max power.

Overview
The Banks Power Derringer Tuner torque offers power gains across the full operating rpm range, starting right off idle, and running to the shift point in each gear. This tuner is dyno calibrated to use multiple data points such as throttle position, RPM, vehicle speed, coolant temperature, and EGT, just like your engine's ECM. It actively and safely optimizes calibrations in real-time thanks to its OBD-II connectivity.

Derringer has 6 levels, adjustable on-the-fly using the iDash to change the performance levels. Level 3 is designed for work use and has a great mid-range power. When running Level 3 with a loaded truck and/or pulling a trailer, your on-ramp merging speeds and passing times are greatly enhanced.

The electronics are enclosed in a compact housing which is easily concealed and communicates with other Banks devices such as an iDash DataMonster, iDash SuperGauge, and PedalMonster throttle booster. The Derringer connects in line with your truck's engine sensors. But unlike other tuners, it also connects to the vehicle's OBD-II diagnostic bus.

ActiveSafety health monitoring circuitry keeps an eye on the vehicle and the module itself by monitoring the health 100 times a second. If it detects a problem, the Derringer instantly bypasses itself, sets a device diagnostic code, and seamlessly returns the truck to factory power. Plus, Derringer's special coolant temp monitoring prevents power from being added when the engine is too cold or overheated. Maximum safe power is all automatic with a Derringer; you just choose your preferred power level and enjoy the ride.

Add Power, Improve Response, Monitor Vehicle
The Banks Derringer High Output tuner brings the engine in your Chevy/GMC Duramax 6.6L from 438 hp and 928 lb-ft to a tire-shredding 519 hp and 1068 lb-ft. This module provides a massive increase in torque across the working range of the engine. Merging, passing, and steep climbs while towing are easier than ever.

The Derringer Tuner can be used with the iDash Data Pro Powertrain Information Center, which works with a mobile app. The Derringer communicates with your Duramax's ECM to adjust the tune in real-time, even compensating for altitude. The ActiveSafety circuitry helps protect the engine and transmission. The Derringer is controlled by the iDash Pro Powertrain Information Center with Bluetooth mobile app. Best of all, it's warranty-friendly since there's no trace left behind after removal.

The Derringer has 6 power levels that are adjustable on the fly. Even with the updated stock horsepower figures for the 24+ models, this module puts down a peak gain of +86 hp, pushing near 520-wheel hp to the road. Plus, the huge increase of +178 lb-ft of torque is situated right in the heart of the power band where you need it most. Level 6 produces the best performance, while Levels 2-4 are optimized for work use with a great mid-range feel with a loaded truck or towing a trailer.

Power You Can Use
Most interstate, turnpike, or parkway onramps are about 1,100 feet. This means you have only 1,100 feet to reach about 70 mph. And the heavier load you tow, the harder this becomes. Banks loaded a Tacoma into a trailer and hitched it to their '24 Duramax. Gross vehicle weight was 20,065 pounds. The stock '24 Duramax took 1,279 feet to reach 70 mph, but when tuned with the Derringer set to level 6 (max power), the rig reached 70 mph in just 1,085 feet. The Derringer-tuned truck hit 70 mph 194 feet sooner than the factory tune. It was safely merging with semis while the stock tune was still accelerating past the merging zone, fighting big rigs for a lane.

The Derringer's added power becomes even more noticeable when passing up a grade, when towing. Passing on the freeway with a 20,065 lb GVW rig up a 7% grade, this tuner rocketed the truck from 45 mph to 70 mph, a full 8.5 seconds quicker than stock. Pushing on to 75 mph, the factory tune runs out of steam on the top end while Derringer continues to pull strong. The gap between stock and Banks' tune widens to a full 12.41 seconds and nearly a quarter mile of separation.

Boost Control Where You Need It
The Derringer provides a huge torque increase across the working range of the engine between 2200 and 2800 RPM. Banks accomplish this by controlling midrange boost. Banks has built 26,000 JLTV engines for the U.S. Army using the same tuning approach that they are now applying to your Duramax. The midrange is where you work your truck.

AutoRate Dynamic Tuning Features:
Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT): This tuner monitors EGTs and logically modulates fueling to maintain a safe maximum EGT, safeguarding your turbo and engine.
Altitude Compensation: The Derringer senses ambient air pressure, controlling the turbocharger to maintain power as altitude increases.
Coolant Temperature Monitoring: This module maintains safe power based on coolant temperature. The Derringer does not add power below 160F or above 240F.
Full Power Timer: The Derringer allows for 30 seconds of wide-open throttle before transitioning to the recommended power level for sustained tow/haul.

ActiveSafety Health Monitoring
Banks combines mechanical fail-safe actions to revert to stock power in the event of internal failure while also intelligently adding power based on the truck operating conditions, such as coolant temperatures that are too cold or hot. Below are some of the features that you receive with the iDash added to this derringer. Derringer is the only tuner available with Active Safety health monitoring circuitry:

  • Checks MAP & FRP Signals And Monitors CPU Activity
  • Activates In The Event Of Failure Or Loss Of 12-Volt Power
  • Internal Diagnostics Checks The System 100 Times Per Second
  • Bypass Relays Smoothly Return Stock Power With No Loss Of Power Or "Limp Mode"

TransCommand Active Transmission Safety System
The Derringer Module is calibrated to decrease power during shifts for better clutch engagement. Thanks to its OBD-II connection, Derringer knows when the GM/Allison 10-speed transmission is shifting gears. It reduces its added power momentarily to provide a smooth shift. Other tuners have no idea or simply ignore when the transmission is shifting and continue to add power, potentially overspeeding the transmission and causing long-term damage.

The Intelligent Shift Tuning means gear changes are optimized for each power level to protect the transmission and increase shift speed while protecting against clutch and torque converter slip. The Accelerator Pedal Monitoring rolls in additional power progressively, optimizing for both part-throttle fuel economy and maximum power when you need it.

Bluetooth App Makes It Easy
The Banks mobile app for the Apple iOS or Android operating system makes setup, configuration, and updating the iDash Pro easier than ever. This app allows you to select and move gauges, change color themes, switch screen layouts, and easily look up parameter definitions.

Information At Your Fingertip
Monitor up to 8 gauges on 5 customizable screens for a total of 40 gauges at the touch of a button. Quickly change gauges, layouts, colors, and pages via intuitive buttons or a tap or swipe on the mobile app. Connect up to 4 iDash Pros to see even more information at once.
