Description

Avoid catastrophic engine failure from a sheared dowel pin in your 2001-2016 GM 6.6L Duramax with the XDP Crankshaft Dowel Pin Kit XD331. From the factory, your Duramax uses a dowel pin on the crankshaft to hold the balancer in place. In both stock and performance applications, these dowel pins are easily sheared causing the balancer to spin on the snout of the crankshaft. When the balancer spins, it can throw off the balance of the engine and create harsh vibrations. Continued operation in these conditions will likely result in serious engine damage such as a broken crankshaft.

Eliminate the risks of engine damage and pin your crankshaft so the balancer stays in place with the XDP Crankshaft Dowel Pin Kit XD331. The Crankshaft Pin Kit includes a specially made jig so you so you can drill the crankshaft without requiring an engine tear-down, or a machine shop. Perfect for the toolbox of the at-home Duramax enthusiast, or a professional shop tech. The included drill bit allows for around 5 procedures to be performed before requiring a replacement. Each kit includes a jig, jig holding bolt, drill bit, pin, and installation instructions.

Features:
  • Engine Tear-Down Not Required
  • Eliminates Factory Dowel Pin Failures
Application Notes:
If using PPE, ATI, or a Super Damper, the counter weight must be removed before installing drill collar.
This tool is not currently compatible with the re-designed Fluidamprs made in 2020 and later that have 6-bolt holes on the face of the damper.

Kit had everything I needed to pin the balancer to the crank. Slow and steady with the drilling, and use plenty of oil. Paid for 3 day shipping, arrived in 2 day to Western CO!

WORKS LIKE MAGIC!

I realize I needed to pin the harmonic balancer on my 650 HP LB7 while I was replacing the water pump, because I discovered it was moving about 1/16" due to a dimple that was growing into the balancer. I did all the work without removing the radiator, which saved me lots of work and time. To my surprise, it not only took care of the play on the damper, but it fixed a few "ghosts" I've been chasing for a while that were driving me totally insane. First, I had a vibration problem at idle on some hot Florida days, that I now blame on the damper coming a little loose with the expansion of the metal parts due to the additional heat they were exposed to, thus allowing the damper to be misplaced. Second, my injector balance rates where always erratic and not even a brand-new set of injectors was able to bring it back to normal. Now my injectors are sweetly balanced, and I think the problem was that the fuel system was overcompensating due to the engine being out of balance when the harmonic balancer moved that 1/16" one way or another. Remember, this is an externally balanced engine. This brings me to number three, overcompensating means wasting fuel, and now my fuel milage more than doubled after pining my balancer, believe it or not. Number four, I thought I had a bad tire, but the symptoms did not make much sense. Again, on certain hot Florida days and mostly at highway speeds, my truck would shake like the space shuttle taking off from Cape Canaveral. Now she is so smooth that I have to be careful not to fall asleep behind the wheel, and the lower noise levels do not help me with that. I am extremely lucky I did not blow my engine up, especially when my stock rotating assembly has over 250,000 miles of total abuse at this power level, and I am not exaggerating the power level, she requires dual CP3 pumps to feed the beast. I am not saying this is the magic potion for all, but in my case, I WISH I HAD DONE THIS WAY BEFORE I STARTED BUILDING THE HORSEPOWER AND TORQUE NUMBERS ON THIS ENGINE, it would have saved me from numerous sleepless nights. So, no matter where you are with your build, you better do this soon or you might not be as lucky as I was. Besides, the alternative would be to remove your engine, disassemble it, and take the crankshaft to a knowledgeable machine shop to key it, which will cost you dearly. Good luck with your build and remember, keep the horses tied up and the smoke down before "the man" pays you a visit... INVOICE #: 2591486A

Product is perfect! Drill guide is perfectly machined and fit very snug in the end it worked out great! If you don’t have a stubby 90° drill and a stubby 1/4 inch drill bit you’ll have to pull your radiator! I was able to put the bit it comes with in the vise and chop off about 1/2 inch to make my 90° drill fit without pulling the radiator.
