The National Hot Rod Diesel Association hosted the season’s first event this weekend at Auto-Plus Raceway, Gainesville Florida. We had a great turnout with several vendors, diesel enthusiasts, and spectators attending despite the forecast which called for heavy rain and tornado warnings for that area.
It was prominent that the weatherman was not stopping these racers from going down the track or getting on the Dyno. As soon as the track dried up and the sun was shining the turbos started whistling along with tires screeching. Unfortunately, only one race was able to ensue before another treacherous downpour flooded the track and called an end to the racing.
As far as the Dyno event went 17 trucks strapped up with Shane Phinney of Quincy, FL coming in first place. Shanes Chevy Duramax produced an impressive 919.2 hp and 1320 tq. Second place went to Chris Anderson of Lakeland, FL getting 765.6 hp and 1377.3 tq with his Dodge Ram. Third place went to Frank Byrd of Milton, FL and even though he only had 744.7 hp he unquestionably got first place in torque with his Dodge Ram producing an astounding 1535.9 foot-pounds. The question is where is the Powerstroke on this podium? Hopefully, at the next event, we can see one.
A special thank you goes out to Jesse and Rick from MBRP, Ryan from ATS as well as Randy Cole owner of the NHRDA. XDP looks forward to the Texas Diesel Nationals in Ennis Texas where the gates open at 9 am and the racing starts at 10 am. Hope to see everyone there!
