XDP, your true “One-Stop-Diesel-Shop” for Ford, GM, and Dodge Ram parts and accessories has once again signed on as the presenting sponsor of the 2013 Diesel Power Challenge.
Every year, Diesel Power Magazine and its readers select 9 of the most powerful, well-rounded street machines in North America. This brings the total to 10 when you include the 2012 returning champion Erik Clausen who’s coming back to defend his title with his 2008 Ford F-250. The 3 GM’s, 3 Dodge’s & 4 Ford trucks will battle for bragging rights in this grueling torture test.
Day 1 starts the Dyno Competition where these trucks will spin the rollers and test the strength of their trucks’ drivetrain, engine and the nerves of the competitor in the driver’s seat. Incredible horsepower and torque numbers along with deafening nitrous backfires and drivetrain destruction are extremely common in the first day of this event. For those who survive, it’s on to the next event.
Day 2 is at the track! Bandimere Speedway to be exact; a track at elevation carved into the side of the Rockies elevates these trucks far from sea level where we can see what performs and what doesn’t at over 5,000 feet. Combine this event with a trailer-tow obstacle course and trailer-tow drag race; it’s easy to see how this is yet another part of the grueling torture test that these trucks must go through.
This brings us to the final day. Day 3 generally starts off a bit more relaxed as this is the mileage test. The trucks drive through the scenic areas of the Denver Colorado outskirts to test which truck can dominate the dyno, tear up the track and STILL get decent fuel economy. After the fill up and fuel mileage calculations, the trucks and their exhausted drivetrains make it to the sled pull for one last go. The trucks hook to a sled and see who can pull it the furthest. After that, the stats are tallied and the winner is announced!
