2008-2010 Ford 6.4 Powerstroke Parts & Accessories

For the 2008 model year, Ford introduced the new 6.4 Powerstroke based on the Navistar MaxxForce 7. The 6.4L was designed to meet the requirements of increasing government emissions standards with the addition of a diesel particulate filter and a diesel oxidation catalyst. New performance enhancements included the addition of a compound turbocharger, upgraded connecting rods, a high-pressure common-rail fuel system, and piezo-electric injectors. These upgrades helped give the 6.4 increased horsepower, torque, and towing capacity over previous engines.

To improve power output, Ford added a compound turbocharger to the 6.4 Powerstroke which can produce up to 40 PSI of boost on a stock system. In this twin sequential turbocharger system, a 65mm fixed-geometry turbocharger is paired with a 52mm variable-geometry turbocharger, providing quicker spool times and better overall performance. Upgrades to the cylinder head bolts were featured on the 6.4L Powerstroke, using four 16mm bolts per cylinder, securely mounting the head to the cast-iron block to help prevent head gasket failures. With EPA emissions standards becoming stricter, Ford needed to include additional emissions control equipment on the 6.4 Powerstroke. The 2008 model year would be the first year Ford added a diesel particulate filter and diesel oxidation catalyst emissions system on their trucks, which would significantly reduce their emissions output. Another innovation of the 6.4 Powerstroke was the state-of-the-art, high-pressure common-rail fuel system featuring the Siemens K16 VDO fuel injection pump and piezo-electric fuel injectors. This fuel system provided the 6.4 Powerstroke with a more efficient combustion, noise reduction, and less harmful emissions.

The 6.4L Powerstroke had stock power levels of 350 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, which was a major improvement compared to previous engines. To handle this increased power, the 6.4 Powerstroke is paired with the heavy-duty 5R110W TorqShift Automatic Transmission or the ZF S6-650 6-Speed Manual Transmission. With all the innovations of the 6.4L Powerstroke, simple tuning can significantly increase horsepower and the engine is designed to handle that extra power. After the 2010 model year, Ford discontinued the use of the 6.4L Powerstroke due to the end of their partnership with Navistar International, but XDP and many other aftermarket manufacturers continue to support this engine. When it's time for routine maintenance on your 6.4L Powerstroke, XDP has what your truck needs from fuel filters and oil filters to serpentine belts and pulleys.
